MILKFLOWER BATHS

Writer: Samantha JoSamantha Jo

I absolutely love a milk bath—it’s one of my favorite things in the world. And when it comes to spiritual cleansing, white baths (also known as Baño Blanco) have been my saving grace. I used to have a goat's milk bar, Soul Cleanse Bar, that was quite potent. I swear by Goats Milk, and I've had a stand-off with a vegan, shout out to ya'll, at a vendor market about the significance of using it. IF YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW. Animal milk is a powerful tool for cleansing baths. This Winter, I decided to create a herb bath tea that can be added to whatever milk you prefer called, MilkFlower Bath. Since I just released the MilkFlower Bath in the shop, I thought this would be the perfect time to break down different types of milk and their spiritual uses. Let’s get into it!

Types of Milk + Their Uses

Goat’s Milk

Goat’s milk is revered for its purifying and road-opening properties. It is a key ingredient in Baño Blanco, used to bring peace, purity, and ancestral connection. Historically, it has been employed to clear away negative energy and refresh the spirit, making it an essential element in deep cleansing rituals.

Cow’s Milk

Symbolizing nurturing, abundance, and divine feminine energy, cow’s milk is often used in love and self-care rituals. In Hoodoo, it is mixed with honey, cinnamon, and chamomile to enhance love baths. Spiritually, it brings warmth and comfort, attracting softness and healing energy into one’s life.

Coconut Milk

Known for its protective and cooling properties, coconut milk is often used to remove spiritual heat and invite divine purity. In Hoodoo, it is blended with Florida Water and cascarilla (eggshell powder) for protection and clarity. This milk is ideal for calming baths, especially when dealing with intense emotions or spiritual distress, offering peace and serenity. Great option for those that just wont touch animal milk.

Almond Milk

Almond milk carries the energy of attraction, prosperity, and sweetness. It is commonly used in Hoodoo baths alongside honey, basil, and cinnamon to draw love and abundance. Spiritually, it enhances rituals focused on financial stability and romantic magnetism, adding a touch of luxury and attraction magic to bathwork. I prefer to use Almond milk for my self love baths, however like stated above you can use Cows Milk.

History of White Baths

Spiritual bathing is a core practice across many traditions, serving as a means to cleanse the spirit before engaging in deeper magical work. Whether for clearing negative energy, bringing in success, enhancing fertility, attracting love, or providing protection, these baths serve a multitude of purposes. In Yoruba traditions, Santeria, and other Afro-Caribbean spiritual systems, white baths hold a special place in purification and spiritual alignment. Also called "White Baño" these baths utilize white or light-colored ingredients that symbolize spiritual clarity and renewal. The process is not just about physical cleansing but also about aligning one's energy with divine forces and natural elements. In these traditions, the head (Ori) is the seat of one’s destiny and connection to the divine. Cooling and cleansing the head through a White Bath is seen as essential for clarity, blessings, and alignment with one’s higher purpose. White baths are specifically formulated to calm the mind, ease anxiety, and clear away hot or chaotic energy. They help regulate fragmented thoughts, anger, and stress while restoring spiritual balance.

Tips for Enhancing Your Bath Ritual *READ*:

  • Prepare a big batch and store it in a glass jar in the fridge for easy access.

  • Light a white candle and set an intention before bathing.

  • Take the bath over multiple days (3, 5, or 9 days) for deeper effects.

  • Pour the bath over yourself after your regular hygiene routine. Do not rinse.

  • Let me say that one more time: CLEAN YOUR BODY GOOD BEFORE TAKING A BATH. Also, if you are on your cycle - DO NOT bathe during that time.

  • Allow your body to air dry as much as possible; lay that towel down, gon head, and sit for a moment.

  • Wear white or light-colored clothing to support purity and renewal. Have a head wrap handy, preferably white. Sometimes, if I'm doing intense work, I don't leave my house. BUT IF YOU MUST - WRAP THAT HEAD UP TIGHT! You can also add some herbs under there.

  • Avoid substances like alcohol, draining media, and unnecessary stress in the days following your cleanse.

  • Depending on what kind of bath you are taking, for example, if it's an actual bath seated in the tub with water. Be sure to bring some water with you as you will need to hydrate yourself.

How to Prepare a Spiritual Bath

  • Boil Herbs: This extracts the medicinal and spiritual properties before adding them to your bath. Let em cool down and marinate. I like my water to look like cognac. Keep it rich.

  • Choose Water Temperature: Sweet baths are typically warm while releasing/uncrossing baths should be cooler.

  • Add Flowers & Other Ingredients: Each addition should align with your spiritual goal for the bath

Other Ingredients to Add to a Milk Bath

Each ingredient carries its own spiritual power, so choose based on your needs:

  • For Purification & Protection: Cascarilla, camphor, sulfur (do some research with this one), anil balls, Florida Water, rue, hyssop, bay leaves

  • For Love & Attraction: Honey, cinnamon, almond oil, fresh flowers (pink, red, or white)

  • For Prosperity & Sweetness: Basil, rosemary, mint, molasses, coffee

  • For Relaxation & Peace: Lavender, chamomile, frankincense, myrrh, river water, coconut oil

Traditional White Baño Ingredients

While recipes vary, some common components include:

  • Efun (Powdered Eggshell or Chalk): Represents purity and spiritual clarity.

  • Cascarilla: Crushed eggshell powder, used for protection and cleansing.

  • Water: Essential for cleansing, whether it’s rainwater, moon water, or river water. Keep in mind each kind of water serves its purpose. Have discernment for where you're collecting your water too. Don't go putting thunderstorm rainwater in a sweet bath, honey.

  • Florida Water: A sweet and citrusy cologne used for cleansing and purifying energy. You can find a specially made batch I created and bottled up in my shop.

  • Herbs & Flowers: Selected based on their spiritual properties, such as rosemary for clarity or white flowers for purity.

Taking a milk bath is more than just a luxury—it’s a spiritual reset. Whether you're looking to purify, attract blessings, or simply bring a sense of peace into your life, incorporating spiritual white baths into your routine can be transformative. Try out my new Milk + Flower Bath in the shop and let me know how it enhances your rituals!
